“Information is transformation: Unravelling Psychology's role in policy-making" is the theme of the 37th EFPSA Congress.
John Cacioppo's portrayal of Psychology as a hub science has gained increased recognition and relevance in the current century, due to the amount of knowledge this field can offer to other scientific disciplines, both in theory and for practical applications. In this challenging world, psychological science has an important role in informing action on emergent areas within our societies.
In this edition of the EFPSA Congress, we aim to provide psychology students with the knowledge and tools to create meaningful and significant changes in their communities through a renovated/empowered understanding on how psychological science can advise and contribute to local, national and/or european public policies . We truly believe that being informed is the first step towards leading and inspiring transformative processes.
Having in mind the undeniable importance of Psychology for informed policy making, we invite all researchers, practitioners and institutions to lead the change from theory to practice.

Ah!, the beautiful country of Portugal. When you think of it, the first thought that probably comes to your mind is: “Ronaldo’s country!”. Well, yes, some Portuguese think the same. But there is much more than that to know about Portugal. Let’s start with the fact that this nation’s land is formed by continental Portugal (connected to Spain) and two islands: Açores and Madeira (yes, Ronaldo was born there. Could you please stop talking about him!?).
Generally speaking, the Portuguese are seen as being simple, warm, welcoming, helpful and cheerful people. But the one thing that really describes our people is the capacity to get out of problems through improvisation and without the proper means. But why are the Portuguese so friendly? I mean, have you seen this weather and food? Who wouldn’t want a piece of these blessings?
In Portugal the weather is one of the things that stands out compared to other countries. It’s neither too hot nor too cold. It’s an excellent country for discovery, for a visit to the Serra da Estrela in the Winter and a summer full of activities with amazing beaches, especially in the Algarve. It’s a sunny country with a lot to offer that has at its advantage the Mediterranean climate and the fragrance of the sea.

The 2023 Congress will take place in Póvoa de Varzim, a city located in the North of Portugal, known for its popular beaches, fishermen and amazing food.
Here are a few suggestions of things to visit during this week:

1. Fortaleza da Póvoa de Varzim
This fortress presents a beautiful view of the beach, a few restaurants and a small chapel to visit, all for free. It was built between the years of 1701 and 1740 during the reign of kings D. Pedro II and D. João V.

2.Museu Municipal Póvoa de Varzim
With a single visit to this museum, you’ll quickly understand the importance of fishing throughout the history of this city and also learn about the culture and traditions of its people.

3. Praia da Lagoa
Although the bathing season begins in June, you can always go to the beach to enjoy the sea breeze or watch the sunset. Only go if the weather allows, because it’s quite dangerous at this time of the year, stay safe!

“Congress offered me the opportunity to combine three main things at once: scientific education, meeting and hanging out with new people and exploring the city. By joining the event you will leave with new up-to-date knowledge, new connections with likeminded people and memorable moments to look back to.”

Lara Dolenc
"It is amazing how one event can benefit you in so many areas at once. I learned new ways to make a difference, I grew closer to old and new friends and I am left with a warm feeling of embrace and acceptance.”

Maxmillian Pultz
“The EFPSA congress is a unique opportunity to acquire scientific knowledge directly from internationally renowned researchers and professors, in addition to meeting our peers from across Europe, who could become future co-workers, research colleagues and friends. It's a whole week full of good experiences and memories, I say it's a must!”
