Venturing Abroad – My Master’s Journey
Hi! My name is Nicole, I am 25 years old and come from the tiny island of Malta. I finished my Bachelor of Psychology in 2018 and during that year I was also part of the EFPSA Board of Management. In 2020, I decided that I wanted to continue my studies in psychology and applied for a Masters of Science in forensic psychology at Coventry University in the United Kingdom. I started this journey in the midst of COVID-19, applying during lockdown and eventually travelling to Coventry in August 2020. The decision to leave my family and friends was not an easy one, however, I had always planned to venture…

8,350 km away from home
Hello there! Thank you for taking the time to read this article. I’m Ritienne, a Psychology student at the University of Malta – a small island in the middle of the Mediterranean. I studied abroad for 4 months in Canada, so it’s safe to say that culture shock was inevitable. The reason I chose to study in Canada was mainly curiosity. I wanted to see how other people lived, and I also hoped to see some wildlife that I could never see in Malta – squirrels, deer, racoons, crows. Let me tell you: they are ADORABLE. On the 8th of January 2022, my friend Mireille and I took a…

Erasmus in Sterling
Hello everyone! My name is Nadine Agius and I am a third year undergraduate student studying Psychology at the University of Malta. Applying for a semester abroad back in January 2021 sounded like a crazy idea, however, I decided to shoot my shot and applied for an Erasmus exchange to the University of Stirling in Scotland. The cold weather and the beautiful highlands were a stark difference to the sunny and coastal island I’m used to, but if I were to be honest, I was getting fed up of feeling sweaty at the beach so this change was more than welcome! Christmas of 2021 felt a bit surreal, as I…

Internship in the Bavarian Alps
My name is Georgios – Nikodimos Asimomytis. I am 22 years old, and I am in the last year of my bachelor’s at the Department of Psychology of Panteion University of Social and Political Sciences. Being trapped by the Covid – 19 pandemic made me reconsider many things in my life and gave me the impetus to try spending time studying abroad and gain new experiences and horizons. The Erasmus+ internship programme, which I was able to attend through my university, was the opportunity I was looking for. Destination: the Bavarian Alps, Germany! My internship took place in Garmisch – Partenkirchen in southern Germany, near the border with Austria, at…

Pandemic and starting a new programme away from home: Research Master in Tilburg
Hello everyone, my name is Marta Dürrigl, and I am a second-year master’s student at Tilburg University. I am enrolled in Research Master in Psychology: Individual Differences and Assessment programme. Even though the pandemic hindered my proper student experience last year, I am hoping to make up for it in the upcoming academic year. Moving during the pandemic seemed like a crazy idea back in April of 2020, but I applied for the programme anyway and here I am. After finishing my bachelor’s degree in Zagreb, Croatia, I was hungry for new adventures and experiences. Tilburg University and this programme seemed like a perfect choice for me. My decision to…

Across the Mediterranean Sea to a distant Island!
My name is Mkyeku Onesmo Kisanga, originally from the United Republic of Tanzania located in the Eastern Part of Africa, 27 years of age, and a 2nd year psychology student at the University of Central Lancashire in Cyprus. Coming from Tanzania back in 2019 gave me chills as I embarked on a new journey flying across the Mediterranean Sea studying ‘psychology’, a major I hardly knew other than the stereotypes that centred around the name ‘shrink’. I hardly fret or feel anxious since I am a hodophile and travelling is in my nature but residing in a foreign place for four years can be nerve-wracking. I remember being apprehensive as…

Study Abroad in Groningen
Hey hey, my name is Pia Neža, I am a student at the RUG University (Groningen, Netherlands). This blog will talk about my study abroad experience. I am a second-year student however, I can not really say much since this COVID-19 situation changed my plans drastically. Somehow my abroad uni life became online studies. Yet, luckily I have so many precious memories from my first year. Without a doubt, I can say going abroad was the best decision I have ever made, and those 5 months gave me much more than I could have ever imagined. So to all of you, who are not sure to take the risk, do it! You…

How to Get the Best Erasmus Scholarship for You?
Two years have passed since I started my Erasmus+ student mobility so I decided to write an anniversary post. HOW TO GET THE BEST ERASMUS SCHOLARSHIP FOR YOU? 1. Start with “why”: “Those who have a why can bear any how,” said Viktor Frankl. I agree with that, it’s very important to be aware of the reasons WHY you want to go on Erasmus+. These reasons will be a reminder for why you chose this programme throughout the application process and your mobility and they might serve as an encouragement if you hesitate to go or whenever you stumble upon difficult moments. Tip: Write down on a piece of paper…

Grad School Experience in Chicago, IL
When I was getting prepared for grad school applications, there were several reasons why I preferred schools here in the United States. One, and perhaps the most obvious one is simply being fluent in the native language. Although I take this for granted most of the time, understanding and speaking the language has made my adaptation here way easier than it would be otherwise. Another reason is the fact that the US is home to many well-known, senior, successful researchers, both in developmental psychology and also generally in the field of psychology. In addition, seeing that many PhD programs were fully funded further influenced my decision to pursue a grad…

My Erasmus in Finland: The country where my dream became true
When I started studying at my university in a very student-friendly city in Olomouc in the Czech Republic, I realised immediately that student life could bring an incredible amount of opportunities for me. I joined the national association and took part in many EFPSA activities as well. Unforgettable experiences of meeting international students at EFPSA events inspired me to challenge myself to spend one semester abroad.I found it quite easy to decide which country and city it should be in. I have always wanted to visit Nordic countries and as my Psychology Department has signed the contract with Finland only, Helsinki became my destination no.1. Luckily, I have been accepted, and…
